Key Milestones
1993: Initial conversations took place about forming an organization for MBA career centers directors, at a GMAC conference in Denver.
1994: First official meeting at a GMAC Conference in San Diego with 56 business school representatives. Organization was founded as National MBA Career Management Professionals Association. Later that year, the name was changed to: MBA Career Services Council. The biggest topic of conversation was the lack of standards for collecting and analyzing employment data and the implications of such in the MBA marketplace. Schools were also looking for a place to come together to network and share best practices.
1996: First Standards for Reporting MBA Employment Statistics were created. The Standards still exist today as the only peer-reviewed, agreed upon set of processes and procedures for collecting and analyzing MBA employment data.
1998: Organization was formally incorporated.
1999: Standards were officially adopted by the membership.
2000: First International member joined (Patricia Wilson, Warwick Business School).
2001: First standalone conference was hosted in Atlanta, GA.
2004: First employer member joined (Dottie Mattingly, American Airlines).
2005: Agreed Upon Procedures (AUP) process began, giving business schools a way to ensure data is collected and analyzed according to the Standards.
2008: First European Conference was held at ESADE in Barcelona.
2013: Name changed to MBA Career Services & Employer Alliance.
2014: First standalone Asian Conference was held at Singapore Management University and National University of Singapore.
Organization celebrates is 20th anniversary, with 800 members from over 250 graduate business programs and corporations worldwide.
2017: First set of Standards for Specialty Masters Programs and first set of Standards for Working Professional MBA Programs released.
2019: Organization celebrates its 25th anniversary, with over 850 members from 320 graduate business programs, corporations, and affiliate partners worldwide.
