Creativity Tools
Evelyn Williams, professor, Georgetown University McDonough School of Business

While some are certainly born with an innate talent to create, much of creativity comes from pushing ourselves to look at things from different vantage points.  In this discussion-based session, we'll explore using research-based tools to hone the creative consciousness that we all possess.  We focus on moving from problem-solving, to discovering new ways to delight our clients, customers, and ourselves.  Participants will leave with a treasure trove of ideation tools they can easily implement with their teams back home.

Professor Williams teaches innovation, design-thinking, and leadership courses at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business where she recently earned the distinguished service award.  Prior to joining McDonough as a Teaching Professor in the Management Group, Professor Williams taught design thinking, leadership, organizational behavior, and team development courses at several business schools across the country.  Professor Williams was the Director of the Center for Leadership Development and Research (CLDR) Leadership Laboratories at Stanford University, Graduate School of Business and over her five-year tenure taught some of the Schools most popular electives and required leadership coursework.  Before joining Stanford’s faculty in 2006, Professor Williams was the Faculty Chair of the Leadership Effectiveness and Development program (LEAD) and a Clinical Associate Professor of Management at the University of Chicago, Booth Graduate School of Business.

Prior to teaching full-time, Professor Williams spent over 15 years in a series of executive and leadership development positions within Fortune 500 firms.

Professor Williams holds a B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles and an M.A. in Education from the University of Chicago where she earned Phi Beta Kappa distinction.  She and her husband are empty-nesters and the proud parents of two daughters now attending university.

Smart talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain new and recent graduate school students and alumni are key to an employer’s successful growth. Employers need to adapt processes to hire top talent. This requires a long-term approach that involves anticipating future hiring needs, creating a sustainable pool of candidates, developing your talent pipeline, and adopting new recruitment technologies. Leveraging all of these elements will help employers implement a recruitment strategy that enables their company to stand out from its competition and attract and retain top talent. Understanding these tactics is important for career center staff as they help employers build successful and impactful brands on campus.
