Fall Recruiting Trends Survey Reflections

The Fall 2024 CSEA Recruiting Trends Survey reflects what we're seeing at Rice Business: major industries like tech and consulting—once high-volume recruiters—are scaling back and evolving their hiring practices. From tighter selection criteria to more streamlined interview processes, change is the new normal.

In response, we've been more intentional about connecting students with alumni and expanding relationships with employers in healthcare and financial services—industries that are both resilient and increasingly attractive to our students. With the world's largest medical center in our backyard and a strong local finance presence, the opportunities here are both strategic and growing.

We're also seeing continued student interest in startups and smaller firms. These roles often offer hands-on, high-impact experiences and better work-life balance. However, they can come with lower conversion rates to full-time post-MBA roles, something we're closely monitoring.

While student participation in career education events has remained steady, one-on-one coaching appointments with our Full-Time MBA students are up 13% from last year—a strong signal that students are actively engaging in their career planning and seeking support through shifting market conditions.
