Awards Descriptions
CSEA members are encouraged to nominate colleagues for one or more awards as described below. Members may also submit a nomination without designating a specific award, allowing the Awards Committee to select the most appropriate award.

Diversity Recruiting Leadership Award
- Purpose: To recognize an employer of graduate management talent that demonstrates strong and sustainable diversity recruiting practices or that has developed an innovative diversity recruiting initiative.
- Target / Eligibility: The nominee can be a current, past, or non-member of CSEA.
- Award Criteria: The company being considered for nomination must have:
- implemented a meaningful diversity recruiting practice or strategy that is impactful, sustainable, and demonstrates strong, measurable results, or
- created an innovative new diversity recruitment program or plan that is unusual in some specific way and demonstrates measurable results
The nomination must clearly illustrate specific, tangible accomplishments or initiatives that demonstrate the results being recognized.
Continuous Leadership Service Award
- Purpose: To recognize significant contributions over time of an individual with over 10 years of service in support of the mission and vision of the CSEA.
- Target / Eligibility: The nominee(s) can be a current or past member of the CSEA with more than 10 years of service to the organization.
- Award Criteria: The nominee(s) must have provided numerous historical and/or on-going contributions to CSEA in which the member has gone significantly above and beyond the normal expectations for their volunteer role, representing a body of work over time. Contributions may include, but are not limited to:
- Important services or resources
- Industry leading best practices
- Leadership to achieve important initiatives, events, or strategic goals
Emerging Leaders Award
- Purpose: To recognize significant contributions to CSEA by an individual with 3-10 years of service to the organization
- Target / Eligibility: The nominee(s) must be a current university or employer member of CSEA with 3-10 years of engagement as a leader
- Award Criteria: Multiple and/or on-going contributions, in which the member has gone significantly above and beyond the normal expectations for their volunteer role, were provided to the CSEA representing a positive impact to the organization over several years. Contributions may include, but are not limited to:
- Impactful services or resources
- Industry leading best practices
- Leadership to achieve important initiatives, events, or strategic goals
One-time Contribution Service Award
- Purpose: To recognize a one-time significant contribution of an individual or team in support of the mission and vision of CSEA.
- Target / Eligibility: The nominee(s) can be a current or past member of the CSEA.
- Award Criteria: The nominee(s) must have provided a significant contribution to the CSEA in the form of a one-time, non-monetary contribution. The contribution must be significantly above and beyond what others in the same role/situation have accomplished. Contributions may include, but are not limited to:
- An important service or resource
- An industry-leading best practice
- Leadership to achieve an important initiative, event, or strategic goal
Mel Penn New Member Recognition Award
- Purpose: To recognize the significant and/or unique contributions by a new member.
- Target / Eligibility: The nominee(s) must be a current school or employer member of CSEA for less than 3 years.
- Award Criteria: The nominee(s) must have made a significant and/or unique contribution to an CSEA committee that results in improvements to the committee in the form of improved processes, procedures, creations or achieved results beyond expectations.
Innovation Award
- Purpose: To recognize individuals, teams, departments, or organizations whose innovative idea, process, program, or practice supports the mission and vision of the CSEA.
- Target / Eligibility: The nominee(s) must be a current school or employer member of CSEA.
- Award Criteria: The nominee(s) must have developed a significant innovation that benefitted students, a career center, a talent acquisition team, or the CSEA. Contributions may be defined as an important service or resource or an industry leading best practice. Criteria for evaluation includes:
- Inventiveness – the innovation must have been the creation of new or reshaping of traditional products or services that demonstrably increased the organization's value and effectiveness to the career services or recruitment community.
- Impact - the product, application or service benefitted the industry in a unique way. The innovation must have provided a significant improvement in the process by which a service was delivered or a significant improvement in student/recruitment outcomes.
- Timeliness - the innovation must have been around long enough to be tested so that it meets the criteria of inventiveness and impact.
- Testing: the innovation must have already been implemented and evaluated.
- Need solution: the innovation must have addressed a clearly defined need.
- Clear outcome: the innovation must have specific and measurable outcomes.
- Replication: the innovation must be capable of replication or adaptation by other organizations.
Members' Excellence Award (formerly Members' Choice Award)
- Purpose: This award provide a chance to recognize an individual(s) member of CSEA who has influenced other members in a positive way, providing ideas that members could implement in their own professional setting.
- Target/eligibility: The nominee(s) must be a current university or employer member of the CSEA
- Award criteria: CSEA members will be considered if they:
- influenced the way others think about their roles or the way in which they provide service to their constituents (students, employers, alumni, job candidates, faculty, schools, etc.)
- made an impact on other members, improving their effectiveness as professionals
- gave a presentation or webinar, or created or executed on an innovative event, that inspired other members to do something different or improved their approach to the services they provide
- served as a role model or mentor for another member
- demonstrated creative use of an established approach or created a new approach to a common industry problem
- demonstrated a best practice”approach when offering services to students, employers, or schools
Honorary Lifetime Membership
- Purpose: To recognize members who made a significant contribution to CSEA and are retiring from the profession and workforce.
- Target / eligibility: Awarded to a member of at least 5 years who is retiring from either a university or HR/MBA staffing position.
- Award Criteria: Eligibility for Honorary Lifetime membership is granted by a majority vote of the Board to professionals who have contributed significantly to the field of MBA career services and/or HR/recruiting and to the CSEA organization and who are no longer eligible for School, Employer, or Associate membership. (An Honorary lifetime member who subsequently becomes eligible for School, Employer, or Associate membership must relinquish honorary membership.)
- Benefits: Honorary members will be exempt from paying membership dues, but may not hold office or vote. They may participate on committees. They may attend the Opening Reception and/or gala event at the conferences at no charge. They may also receive a $150 discount on their conference attendance.
Visionary Leadership Award
- Purpose: To recognize friends of the CSEA who have provided outstanding leadership in advancing CSEA or our profession in a significant and measured way.
- Target / Eligibility: The nominee(s) may be from the public or private sector and must exemplify the mission and values of CSEA, including those who have made a significant contribution(s) to MBA/graduate business career services or the talent acquisition industry. Possible considerations include, but are not limited to, those with national prominence in a partnering organization; those associated with an affiliate organization, business school deans, corporate executives, representatives of the media, and politicians.
- Award Criteria: The individual or team must have contributed unique vision and leadership through the creation or reinvention of a program or initiative that clearly supports the CSEA mission and values and the MBA career services and/or talent acquisition industry.
